Message he's refering to JUN not having a reduced base circle rather than the JWTs having a smaller one. Either way both require lobe clearance. The ramp rate is in fact smoother and much steeper than the JWT mechanicals.

I've put together 3 sets of heads with the JWT mechanicals and I really dislike them but they are the only solid cam out with the most radical profile. My new Genesis Series 1 hydraulic cam though has more duration and only .010" less lift than the solid setup (dyno testing soon for data) but for the mechanicals this is pretty much the biggest you can go. Having been working with JUN cams here recently the cam profile on a JUN cam is much nicer than the JWTs. The machining is much more refined. Theres still also a problem with valve springs as well that needs to be addressed. I've found 3 different dual coil valve springs that are much better suited for the mechanical setup but they are a bit more in price as well.

Petadakilla, I think if you run the JWTs you're going to need more work than what you expect to put into them. I highly advise in sending the cams off to be hardened (nitride case hardened as these are supposedly just quenched differently) and would def suggest getting them either DLC coated or at minimum dry film coated or WPC treated. You'll need to hone the lifter bores out (should be done for even hydraulic setups as well) and I would definitely coat the lifters themselves. Every set of heads I've torn down has evidence of gauling. The biggest issue is physically setting valve heights and lash on the setup. Its a lot of work but if done properly and well thought out can prove very beneficial.

I would seriously forget about trying to obtain a stock idle. I don't know why ppl are so hung up on that. Accept the lopey idle, it doesn't hurt anything.

Ifs ironic you speak about this subject because im writing a document now on this very subject on my site. Lots of information and details. Good luck with your build.
